Statement
Magdalen Pickering builds immersive, uncanny worlds.
She bridges painting, screen-printing, sculpture, and virtual reality; often using machine-assisted tools like a tufting gun, 3D modeling software (Blender), and digital fabrication techniques.
Her practice investigates the porous boundaries between the real and the virtual, the physical and the representational. Decentering a traditional understanding of space and identity;
Pickering’s installations utilize multi-sensory environments.
viewers encounter painted surfaces, soft sculptural forms, and interactive VR experiences that function as parallel yet interwoven realities.
Her use of saturated color and pattern evokes both nostalgia and dissonance, oscillating between high-resolution digital fantasy and raw, tactile presence.
Maggie received her MFA from Hunter College in 2025. She is interested in the way technologies are embodied by the truth and fictions of reality.
